Acoustic Commons Exhibition
Location: ESAAix and neighboring locations in Aix en Provence
Online: Live audio streams from open microphones at acousticommons.net
Dates: Sat 8th / Sun 9th October 2022 – Public Programme

Acoustic Commons is a collaboration between sound art organisations (CONA, Full of Noises, Locus Sonus & Soundcamp) & a range of associate partners, each with close links to a specific site of cultural or natural heritage value. The project draws upon and develops those links, through a range of creative and technical approaches and innovative ways to engage with audiences and places.

About the Exhibition
During October, the partners will collaborate on a public ‘Exhibition of Sounds’ in Aix, produced by Locus Sonus and presenting work created over the course of the project as well as talks, presentations and site-derived installations and performances. The exhibition takes place in venues in and around the art school as well as presenting works along sections of the GR2013 trail in partnership with Bureau des Guides and the students and faculty of ESAAIX.

The exhibition includes:

  • New artworks, compositions, installations, talks and performances produced by the partners during the project lifespan.
  • New live audio streams established during the project and contextual materials.
  • A colloquium featuring contributions from partners in Slovenia, UK and Japan (Cyberforest) plus invited guests.
  • A new publication created by students, faculty and visiting artists documenting their walk along the GR2013 with Bureau des Guides.

Mobile projects

Radio Zai is a local webradio run by students and faculty from ESA-Aix. During the Acoustic Commons event Zai is dedicating its programme to related content in the form of live streaming and podcasts – some of which will be recorded and edited by students in situ in a mobile studio.

Fanzine and Mobile print workshop – During its three year programme, Acousticommons has produced an edition of “fanzines”. For the final event we are extending this concept to involve students from ESA Aix and the general public. The Fanzine will be produced on the fly, as we go along in a mobile print studio.
