To celebrate the closing of Ryoko Akama’s exhibition, composition of happiness, the Media Centre hosts performances by two internationally acclaimed acts:  Diatribes (A.K.A. Cyril Bondi & D’incise) (Switzerland) performing ‘Sistere’ (percussion & electronics) + Ecka Mordecai (UK), Cello solo performance.

This event is supported by Pro Helvetia, Octopus Collective, The Media Centre and ame.

Diatribes (A.K.A. Cyril Bondi & D’incise). The Geneva-based duo explore simplification and rational rituality, presenting two works tied together by strict sonic or structural principles, highly detailed textures, repeated gestures, soft tones, febrile pulses and acoustic hyper-sensibility.

“In ‘Sistere’, these two pieces are played live, over a background recording, which is a technique we have used in the previous pieces, creating an ambiguity of perception. We wanted to get back to “real” instruments and work with their natural sound, but still keep them in an electro-acoustic field of listening and making audible very small changes in the sounds.“

Ecka Mordecai is an artist based in Manchester (UK) who works with performance, sound and the ‘cello. She has training in sound art, performance art, composition and improvisation. She has worked and collaborated with: David Toop and Rie Nakajima, Andrew Chalk and Tom Scott, Thurston Moore, Sam Weaver, Kate Armitage, David Birchall. She has performed at the Hepworth Gallery, White Cube (Bermondsey), Islington Mill and Fort Process (Newhaven). She is based at Islington Mill and is the art director for Cuspeditions record label.
